Resident Rotations

We are pleased to offer an innovative one-month hands on elective rotation for Residents, and Fellows. As we expand our program, these rotations are in high demand. Space is limited.

Educational & Clinical Components

  • Weekly Journal Club – participates in an active discussion of pivotal and cutting edge emergency ultrasound literature
  • Weekly image review – participates in an active quality assessment of scans done within the previous week
  • Weekly didactic learning – receives mini-lectures to cover core and select advanced POCUS applications
  • Weekly bedside instruction. Dedicated POCUS scanning sessions of active ED patients with core ultrasound faculty and fellow ultrasound residents – Resident performs ultrasound exams and guided procedures
    • Required scanning shifts – Minimum 3 /week
  • Required reading – selections include recent journal articles and online resources (Ultrasound Guide for Emergency Physicians, Ultrasound Guided Regional Nerve Blocks and Atlas of Echocardiography)
  • Optional case report for submission – one written work suitable for submission to an academic publication highlighting a unique case from the month
  • Required clinical shifts (4) in the Emergency Department, scheduled by the scheduling coordinator

Eligibility

  • Current participation in Paediatric or Adult Emergency Medicine, NICU, PICU or General Paediatric Residency in Canada
  • Up to two positions will be available at any time on a first-come first-serve basis
